Welcome to the Web Site of the Great Torrington High School Class of 1954

Announcing a new schedule for class gatherings

The THS Class of 54 has a new schedule for class gatherings.  Since the reunion committee is always asked by classmates when the next reunion will be held, and we are not getting any younger, we have decided to have monthly luncheons on the second Tuesday of every month.  Here are the details.

Venue                   Fairview Golf Club in Harwinton, where we’ve had all our recent reunions

Time                     12:00 Noon, every 2nd Tuesday of the month

Ordering              Order off the menu.  Separate checks for everyone

Reminders           None.  No phone calls or mailings from the committee.  Just show up.
So put the dates on your calendars.  Here they are for the rest of 2018:
                              Aug. 14   Sep. 11   Oct. 9   Nov. 13   Dec. 11.

Note                     Since there are no golfers during the winter months, the dining room at
Fairview is closed during Jan, Feb & Mar.
So no luncheons during those months.

Our 80th Birthday Party was a Yuuuuge success!!

The attendance was a surprise; a total of 78 attendees including 55 classmates.  We were very happy to see several classmates who have never, or not in a long time, attended a reunion.  And there were a few more walkers and wheelchairs than we’ve seen in the past and those folks evoked our admiration for being there.

John McLeod resumed his role as MC of the party and Father Fador started us off with an inspiring Benediction.  There were brief remarks by John Murphy and Carmela Heuschkel, followed by a delicious buffet luncheon provided by Fairview Farms Chef, Keith LaManna.

We sang Happy Birthday to ourselves and the committee blew out the candles on the cake  There was a great vibe in the room throughout the afternoon, you could hear it and feel it.

Everyone had a great time and several classmates asked if there would be any more gatherings.  It is an intriguing thought.

There was no official photographer at work but if you took some photos and want share them with your classmates, email them to me and I will put them on the web site.

OUR 60th REUNION

The reunion was a huge success!  We had 53 classmates and 90 total people in attendance and everyone was asking “When is the next one?”  as they were leaving.  The food was good, the venue was great, we had videos of 50s hit songs, and old class photos of the 8th grade classes, all of the freshman sports teams and many ad-hoc photos of Lincoln Luncheonette, a house party, and a summer beach party, and other miscellaneous shots of classmates.

Four classmates (Carmela Clapps, Beverly Rose, John Murphy, and Cal Bensch) put on a skit reminiscing about growing up in Torrington and attending THS that had everyone laughing.  People did not want to leave and many were still there at the 6:00 closing hour.

Many classmates were taking pictures.  If you were one of them, I will put  them on the site if you mail them to me, michaelbz@sbcglobal.net   I have put up photos in the link on the left labeled 60th Photos.   Click on it to check them out.  ( Be patient, there are a lot of pictures and it takes a while for them to download to your computer.)

So stand by for news of the next reunion.  Given the response to this one, we may need to do another in 2 years so we can all celebrate our 80th birthdays together.

Our
57TH REUNION
IS NOW HISTORY

It was a great venue, the Cornucopia, a great meal, and a great crowd.  There were 42 classmates and a total of 67 people in attendance.  Even with all the reunions we've had many classmates were still connecting with people they haven't seen in years.  That's what it's all about, right?

If you want to see who was there, click on Classmates List on the left, follow the clickpath and look in the 2d and 3d columns in the address list.

Click on "57th Photos" on the left to see photos from Carmela Heuschkel and Steve and Teri Pinney.  I haven't had time yet to add captions.
If you have photos from this reunion or any other event that involves members of the class of 1954, send them to me,
michaelbz@sbcglobal.net  We all enjoy the photos from our younger days as seen below.

Stay tuned for news of our 60th, it's only 3 years away in 2014.  (2014?? Oy Veh, the decade is slipping by unnoticed!!)

East School Nativity Play - 6th or 7th Grade
Everybody's there: the new baby, the beaming parents, the angels, the shepards, and the 3 kings.
The director told everyone to look at the baby but wouldn't you know, the only 2 people sneaking a peek at the camera are angels.
The audience response to the performance at East School was overwhelming and the troupe had to do a second performance at St. Peter's Hall the following Friday night.
The players are:

The 53d reunion picnic was a roaring success!

We had 57 classmates and a total of 93 attendees, just about half the number that attended our 50th reunion.
Everyone enjoyed themselves spending time with classmates they haven't seen in a while.
There were displays of old photos, THS54 clippings, and other nostalgia items.
The food was good.
The music was good until the laughter drowned it out and no one could hear it anymore.
And of course the crowd was great.
